Apps for the Samsung Galaxy Gear

March 28th, 2014

A friend of mine has an original Samsung Galaxy Gear smart watch and was bemoaning the lack of apps.  So, like any good developer, I’ve written a couple!  Simple things first, of course.  Click the icons to download the APK files.

First, a calculator. Yes, strangely the Gear did not include one.

The second is a dice rolling app for table top role playing games.  It does a single die roll for 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 20, and 100 sided dice.  Simply tap the buttons to roll! Fast and easy to use.

To install, you’ll need the Android ADB installed.  Then you can simply connect your gear using a USB cable and your cradle and use the command: adb -d install GearCalc.apk to install the calculator or adb -d install Dice.apk to install the dice app.

Starfall nearly completed

February 26th, 2014

Starfall is almost complete, right on schedule.  There are a couple more assets to complete, namely some sound effects, and then more testing.  Assuming testing goes well, I should be able to publish to the Play Store on Friday!

Chronos changing to Red Automate

February 21st, 2014

Feature Graphic

I’ve been working hard on completely revamping Chronos, the device automation application for Android that’s been out for several years.  The UI has been redone and simplified, more Trigger and Setting options have been added, and a new category “Actions” has been included.  Actions allow you to do one time events like play a sound, or send an SMS when a Profile is activated.

The big change though is the name.  Chronos has languished, fighting with a ton of other apps with similar names, and it’s time for a change.  Plus, I am hoping that all of the utility apps I put out can be unified under a common umbrella, namely all following the naming convention of “Red <some name>” like Red Torrent already is.  And obviously Red Lightning.  Chronos will be the first to get renamed, and will take on the name Red Automate with the next release.

When is the next release? Soon, I hope. You can read more here  My current timeline has it in the middle of march, assuming no weird bugs pop up.

Speaking of bugs, I’ve added over 400 JUnit tests to Red Automate, which has made bug squashing a heck of a lot easier.

First Game – Starfall

February 21st, 2014

Started working on my first game, called Starfall.  This will be a pretty simple game, but should prove fun and challenging.  Plus, it will be an excellent way to wade into game development, including using the Google Play Game Services for leaderboards and achievements.

The basic concept is you control an orbital defense platform firing on incoming falling stars.  After each is destroyed, the next ones will keep getting faster and faster.  The goal, of course, is to defend the planet for as long as possible.

Good progress has been made so far, and I’ll post again when it’s been released, hopefully within the next couple weeks.
